You know those friends you haven’t spoken to in WAY too long? You think about them often, but always at an inconvenient time to call.
So you don’t.
And the weeks turn into months.
And then you get embarassed, so you don’t call.
But you have to suck it up sometime, right?
Well, that’s pretty much what I’ve been doing about blogging. So it’s time to suck it up. Hello everyone! JenK here!
The past year and a bit has been insane (to say the least). 2009 was a year of huge personal and financial change in my life; moving back home in March from Bellevue to the Tri-Cities for a job, only to have it disappear six months later; starting the Tri-Cities Sport and Social Club in April ‘09 and having it take almost a life of its own; realizing that $$$ absolutely does not equal happiness in my life (that was a BIG ONE); needing to find a roommate for the first time since college; and on the upside, meeting a group of people via the Social Club and social media (Twitter) who would prove to be some of the most inspiring and creative individuals, encouraging and advising me to do MY own thing in 2010. The crazy part (at least to me) is that I’ve actually never been happier or had more fun that I have in the last 3 months.
I’ve spent a lot of time lately trying to figure out ‘what I want to be when I grow up’. Ironic, really, trying to figure this out NOW, at 36. But there’s no doubt that the answer I come up with today is nowhere NEAR the answer I would have came up with at the age of 23, straight out of college. 23yo JenK would have said “RICH RICH RICH”! 36yo JenK says “HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY”. Too bad the 23yo me couldn’t be convinced that one does not equal the other. Idiot 23yos. No wonder I call them toddlers
So what’s the deal now? Well, I’m focusing on what makes me happy. I still love photography, and now that Spring has sprung in the Tri-Cities, I’m almost twitching to get back to it. And, strangely enough, my love for Washington Wines has turned into a fantastic opportunity, and has spurred the start of a new personal project as well as more than a few professional jobs as well. More on that later…don’t you love the mystery?
Speaking of wine, I’m on a mission. When it comes to wine, I know what I like, but for the life of me I couldn’t actually TELL you what it is. “Big Cabs”, “Bordeaux Blends”, “long finish”….WTF? I’m going to need your help figuring it out. So I’m planning some fun Wine and Food 101 classes through the Social Club, working with some of the best local chefs and wineries who have agreed to play along with my crazy little plans. If you’re local, keep an eye out, because I think these events will sell out quickly.
Since my new “mission” will have me tasting several times a week (how HORRIBLE), I think I’m going to be posting about it here in my own clumsy way. Hopefully you’ll be entertained and not appalled.
As my Aunt Sylvania (like the lightbulb) says…”You never knows!”
